Refresher course on early child care, dev’t for day care workers eyed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government wants the day care workers in the province to undergo refresher course on Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) through regular trainings on daycare service.

Elizabeth Baybayan, Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) officer disclosed that some daycare workers are not familiar or they lost track on the proper way of implementing the ECCD, the heart of daycare service program.

Baybayan said the program focuses on the formation of child’s values, learning through play, community involvement and development of interpersonal skills.

“ In teaching day care service, it does not necessarily mean that you’re going to use a lot of books. It is more on playing and other interactive activities involving not only children but also their parents,” Baybayan said.

She also explained that daycare service program should not be expensive and luxurious such as the conduct of out of town field trips.

“Field trips has been a regular activity to some day care centers however, these should not be compulsory and as much as possible, it should not be done out of town. According to the guidelines of ECCD, trips should be learning trips. For example a visit to community leaders and helpers,” explained Baybayan.

The capability enhancement program of the daycare workers was piloted in Mabalacat City wherein every Saturday they were given trainings and workshops.
