CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA — In line with the provincial government’s mission of providing excellent health care services to the Kapampangans, the Provincial Blood Services and Advocacy Council (PBSAC) aims to establish blood stations in every district hospital. This came after the first meeting of PBSAC held at Orotel this Thursday.
According to 1st district Board Member Crisostomo Garbo, president of PBSAC, the council’s objective is to provide safe, sufficient and sustainable blood for every Kapampangan thus making every blood station 100% operational by the middle of the year.
“Iyong health care program ng governor maganda. Kailangan na nating mapabilis ‘yong pagtatayo ng blood stations sa bawat ospital,” Garbo said.
Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Provincial Health Officer assured the council that the district hospitals have their own blood bank ref which is a requirement in operating a blood station.
Based on the records of the Deprtment of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-RO3) there are only three lead government blood facilities in the region. They are Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital (JBLMRH) in Pampanga; Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research Medical Center (PJGMRMC) in Nueva Ecija; and Bulacan Provincial Blood Center in Bulacan.
The council also targets to have a mass blood letting activity every quarter in the four districts of Pampanga.
Meanwhile, Vivian Mallari, MT4, Regional Voluntary Blood Services Program (RVBSP) coordinator of Deprtment of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-RO3) lauded the provincial government headed by Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda for her initiative of establishing a blood council.
“Ito (Pampanga) ang first province na may blood bank activity. Nakikita natin ‘yong eagerness na magkaroon ng blood bank.” Vivian Mallari, said.
PBSAC was established pursuant to Department of Health (DOH) Administrative Order No. 2010-0002 dated 7 January 2010 requiring every region, province and highly urbanized cities to establish and operate a Local Blood Council (LBC) to support the implementation of the National Voluntary Blood Service Program (NVBSP) for Blood Safety and Adequacy, Quality Care and Patient Safety.
The local blood councils then will support the national/regional blood services network.
