Pampanga wins 5 DOH awards

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga—The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon has conferred several awards to the Pampanga provincial government for excellence in implementing health programs in rites held here on Dec. 14, Wednesday.

The administration of Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda obtained the “Highest Vaccination Coverage among Most Populous Provinces Award,” “Outstanding Performance Award” for reporting risks and outbreaks of notifiable diseases, and “Excellence Award on Universal Health Care (UHC) Implementation. ”

Dr. Zenon Ponce, provincial health officer, received the awards from DOH Undersecretary Eric Tayag and Central Luzon Regional Director Corazon Flores.

The DOH Central Luzon Excellence Awards is an annual event that recognizes local governments that have shown strong commitment in promoting and protecting the health of people in the region,  and in achieving the goals of the Universal Health Care law.

In rites at Kingsborough Convention Center, Dr. Ponce credited Governor Pineda and Vice Gov. Lilia Pineda for having prioritized the health program as a way to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the province.

Dr. Ponce said the Alagang Nanay Preventive Health Care program, created through Ordinance No. 843 last July, has tracked down poor residents with illnesses through early diagnosis, helping provide timely treatment before their cases turn to worse.

“We achieved the awards through the leadership and support of Governor Pineda and Vice Governor Nanay as well as through the combined efforts of all of the staff, doctors and nurses in 10 district hospitals and the Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Provincial Hospital,” Dr. Ponce said.

“We saw to it that we complied with the policies, memoranda and circulars of the DOH so that we can ensure the health and well-being of residents in Pampanga,” he added.

Two public hospitals also received awards for efficient delivery of healthcare services.

Escolastica Romero District Hospital is the only hospital in Central Luzon to gain a “National Hospital Star Award” for its exemplary practices on public safety, infection and control, and service provision, customer and employees satisfaction, and community-based activities.

The Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Provincial Hospital was given a “Medical Assistance to Indigent People (MAIP) Program Achiever Award.”

“Swerte tayong mga Kapampangan na meron tayong mga namumuno na nagbibigay importansya sa kalusugan ng bawat isa,” Ponce added.

The local governments of Lubao, Mabalacat City, City of San Fernando and Angeles City also received awards in different categories
