The Pampanga provincial government through the Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (ACTOP) will hold the first ever Pampanga Arts Awards, known as “Galal Kalalangan Pampanga” as part of the nationwide celebration of National Arts Month in February.
This was announced by Arwin Paul Lingat, Pampanga Tourism Officer, who said that theme of the contest is “Visual Interpretation ng Kantahing Bayan (Folk Song) – Atin Cu Pung Singsing”. He added that the competition is being held in cooperation with the SM City Clark.
He clarified that artists – who are Capampangan, may or may not be based in Pampanga, and non-Capampangans, but based in Pampanga – may join the contest whose objective is to “enhance the understanding of Filipino culture not only in Pampanga but throughout the country as well”.
Lingat revealed that Governor Lilia G. Pineda has approved the awarding of P100,000.00 in cash and trophies to the winners.
The contest also requires that contestants be Filipino, 18 years old and above. They should submit well framed representational paintings using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media.
In submitting the requirements, the contestant should be ready with the following: photo copy of valid ID; 5” x 7” color photo of the painting with personal information of the artist written at the back; notarized affidavit of entry form; residence certificate.
According to Lingat, painting entries are at the Museo ning Angeles, Sto. Rosario St., Angeles City, awaiting judging for the awarding on February 26. Then, he added, the winning paintings and all the other entries shall be displayed at SM City Clark from February 26 to 29.
The adjudged best entries shall be awarded the grand prize, the jurors’ choice award of excellence, and award of merit which will be given cash prizes and trophies. The rest of the entries will be given certificates for having joined the contest.
