PORAC, Pampanga – Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda joined some 1,000 farmers on Friday in the celebration of their 6th year Porac Farmers’ Day together with Luli Arroyo-Bernas, daughter of Second District Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
The event was spearheaded by Roberto Lintag, farmer leader, Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David, Board Members Joseph Tonton Torres, Salvador Dimson, Arthur Salalila Councilor Mike Tapang, president of Pampanga Councilors’ League and municipal councilors.
The governor said the provincial government is more than ready to assist and support the sector of agriculture in this town and is willing to give more funds to improve their crop production.
She also reported to the farmers the accomplishments of the Capitol particularly the rehabilitation of Jose Songco Lapid District Hospital which was jointly funded by the Department of Health, office of Senator Lito Lapid and the provincial government.
She said that the service patrol which will be given to each barangay is not solely for the use of barangay officials but this can be used by the village folks particularly the farmers for emergency purpose.
Arroyo-Bernas assured the farmers the full support and cooperation of the office of Second District Congresswoman in the plight and needs of the farmer sector here.
The farmers’ day here is providing an avenue to address farmers’ issues and it is also a chance to give back farm-related assistance to farmers and farmer cooperatives.
In fact, the Department of Agriculture Regional Office III distributed farm inputs and equipment to the farmers headed by Lintag in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) and municipal agriculture office (MAO).
Local officials here said the farmers’ day is an annual activity designed to maintain good relations with farmers and farmer cooperatives and address their concerns.
It was learned that this town has the biggest land area in the province and most of it, is devoted to farming.
