Pampanga ascribes COVID-19 downtrend to immunization

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Provincial Government led by Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda disclosed on Monday that the province has seen a steady reduction in COVID-19 infections as the number of vaccinated individuals has reached 30 percent.

Dr. Zenon Ponce of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said that daily reported cases collected from hospitals and isolation facilities have been substantially fewer in recent weeks compared to August and September when infections averaged 400 to 700 cases daily.

In its October 10 bulletin, the province reported 101 new infections and 3,839 active cases, down from 191 new cases and 4,302 active cases in its previous report on October 6. The latest figure is also significantly lower than the October 9 data, which showed 140 new cases and 3,899 active cases and way much lower from its September 10 report which gathered 219 new cases and 5,584 active cases.

“Dumadami na kasi sa atin ang bakunado kaya nakikita natin itong downtrend sa probinsya. Marami na rin ang well-informed at hindi na masyado lumalabas or kung lalabas man ay sumusunod sila sa mga health protocols upang maka-iwas sa infection,’’ Dr. Ponce said.

According to him, the province has already vaccinated 30% of its people and used the 600,000 doses of vaccinations it purchased and got from the national government.

“Inaasahan natin na magtuloy-tuloy na ito hanggang December, and hopefully by then we will have achieved herd immunity of 70% fully vaccinated persons,” he added.

According to PHO data, the increase in recoveries has lowered the number of cases registered daily. On October 10, there were 40, 174 patient recoveries, up by 159 recorded on October 9 of 40, 021 recoveries. The latest recoveries were also 9, 305 higher than the September 10 report of 30, 869 recoveries.

As of Sunday, there were 46,424 confirmed cases in the province, with 2,411 deaths.

With 10, 893 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the City of San Fernando leads the 21 municipalities, followed by Mabalacat City with 7, 020 cases.

Governor Pineda urged Pampanga residents to strictly abide by the health protocols set by the experts, emphasizing that the Delta form of coronavirus continuous to pose a health risk.
