P6 M food packs distributed to typhoon affected families

 

City of San Fernando – A total of P6, 199, 398 worth of relief goods was distributed to the affected families of typhoon Maring and southwest monsoon (Habagat) in the province for the past ten days.
Partial reports from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) as of August 26 shows that 17,879 food packs were given to affected families temporarily sheltering in the evacuation centers from inundated barangays especially in the 4th and 2nd districts.
Based on the report of Elizabeth Baybayan, PSWD officer, the distribution was realized due to the joint efforts of different local government units who spent P1.6 million for the provision of goods, Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) III and other non-government agencies who contributed goods amounting to P897, 500 and the provincial government provided 12, 194 relief packs totaling to P3, 658, 200.
She clarified that repacking of goods at the provincial action center is still ongoing as well as the distribution to the other affected families.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) monitoring report as of August 27 indicates a fast decrease in the water level. The number of flooded areas dropped from 315 to 100 barangays while some evacuees returned to their homes from 3,116 evacuated families, they are now down to 1,147.
Governor Lilia Pineda instructed all members of the PDRRMC and department heads to intensify their programs for immediate assistance, rehabilitation and livelihood for the victims.
