New Candaba mayor to shelve ‘Ibon-Ebon’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Candaba mayor-elect Rene Maglanque said his incoming administration will assure the continuity of annual festivals showcasing his town’s industry and indigenous products but not the “Ibon-Ebon” celebration.

Ibon-Ebon festival, which brought the name of Candaba to fame not only in the province but in the whole country, was a brain-child of outgoing Mayor Jerry Pelayo.

Maglanque said he is planning to create another festival that would target the main product of Candaba which would make the festivity as marketing event and arm of the town in the promotion of its industry and tourists attraction at the same time.

Maglanque said he will definitely cut the budget intended for the festival from P5 million to P1 million and the savings will go to the education sector.

“My focus is more on the education of the indigent children who are dreaming to alleviate poverty that their families suffer from,” Maglanque added.
However, he clarified he needs to sit down with other stakeholders and local officials to discuss his proposal.

“We will polish and finalize it, together with the stakeholders, but definitely, this concept of another festival will mark the spirit of Candabeños and embody the town’s major industry,” he said.

Maglanque also assured the Candabeños of the continuity of the developmental programs and projects that will be left by the out-going administration.
In an interview at the Capitol during his courtesy call to Governor Lilia G. Pineda, Maglanque stated that he will still implement the programs he deemed to be effective and highly-needed in their town while unfinished infrastructure projects such as roads will be completed as scheduled.

“Together with the council, we will improve other existing programs such as health related services that would benefit the greater majority of the people.
