GUAGUA – Mayor Dante Torres asks the public in his town to support local chicken products especially those outside the seven-kilometer control zone near San Luis town where the avian influenza outbreak started.
The mayor said this during a boodle fight organized by the Municipal Government in the public market here.
Torres also said that the people should eliminate their paradigm that chicken products in the province, especially in his town, are safe for consumption. He also expressed his dismay for the declininng sale in chicken products in the publlic market where a kilo of chicken now costs P90-P100 from its originall price of P140 per kilo.
“Here in Guagua, I can say that the chickens here are safe and are not affected by the bird flu scare. We are closely monitoring those that are imported here, inspecting every delivery and see to it that all of the products are safe to eat,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude for Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda for her efforts to save the poultry industry and vowed to do his part as a local chief executive.
“I am in support of Nanay’s drive to ease the public’s scare. And that is why we organized this boodle fight and invited market goers to show that here in Guagua, chickens are safe to eat,” the mayor said.
He then vowed to continue monitoring and inspecting poultry products coming in and out of the town.
He also said that he already talked to poultry owners in the town and told them to follow strict protocol in biosecurity and make it sure that they constantly check their poultry for signs of illlness.
