CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Former Integrated Bar of the Philippine Pampanga Chapter President Atty. Imelda “IQ” Tuazon was elected as governor of IBP Central Luzon.
Since the establishment of IBP 1973, Atty. Tuazon is first lady-lawyer from the Pampanga and the third Kapampangan to hold the highest position of IBP in the region. She is currently one of the Commissioners on Bar Discipline of the IBP National.
Atty. IQ said this is a rare opportunity for lady-lawyers like her to lead an organization manipulated by men especially when the other contenders are males.
Through secret balloting, chapter presidents from IBP Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bataan, Zambales and Aurora chose the IBP Governor and atty. Tuazon got the majority of votes for the position.
“This is an honor for me and to the Kapampangan lawyers. I am trusted with this huge responsibility to carry-on the mission and vision of the IBP and I will do my best,” Atty. Tuazon said.
The governor-elect is confident that with the help of the chapter officers she can perform her duties and responsibilities well for the IBP.
“IBP officers in each chapter are brilliant lawyers who are active and cooperative in maintaining the credibility and integrity of our profession. With their support, I can do better,” she said.
Just like when she was still the IBP Pampanga president, Atty. Tuazon vowed to intensify the legal-aid on wheels project of the organization. Here, lawyers give free-legal seminars to local officials and free legal advice to indigents.
The governor-elect will hold the position for two years after its oath-taking at the Supreme Court in front of the justices sitting en banc.
