City of San Fernando—- Some 150 female pupils from grade four benefited recently, from the school based immunization to fight the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
The HPV is a common viral infection of reproductive tract among female. The vaccination was initiated by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Ching Yalung, coordinator of the expanded program immunization (EPI) said the HPV immunization is purely for female.
The beneficiaries will be vaccinated with two doses of HPV Quadrivalent vaccine.
She said that vaccination at a young age is most effective when given during childhood. She added that during the early age when the immune system is at its strongest condition which mounts a robust response to the vaccine.
Global Data shows, that cervical cancer is the third most common cancer among women and the second most frequent cause of cancer-related death. It has recorded 300,000 deaths annually.
