CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Governor Lilia G. Pineda is eyeing for the construction of P100-million mini-dam to control the flow of water coming from the upstream of the 2nd district of Pampanga.
“This project if realized would save thousands of Kapampangans from the ill-effect of perennial flooding in almost all towns in 2nd district particularly in the downstream portion,” Pineda said.
The governor said, the provincial government in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will pilot test the strength of a mini-dam set to be constructed to prevent the flowing of floodwaters in the 2nd district.
The governor said, she already got the approval of DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson about the mini-dam proposed project.
“Secretary Singson gave his nod and appreciation to this initiative of the provincial government,” she said.
Pineda added, the DPWH secretary even suggested that his department would provide for the design to ensure the strength, integrity of the proposed mini-dam that can also withstand the strong current coming from the upstream.
She disclosed that the volume of water from the upstream has resulted to the devastation of rice lands and major infrastructure projects including the displacement of thousands of residents.
“Magagamit pa ng mga magsasaka ang mini-dam bilang patubig sa kanilang sakahan,” she said.
