Governor Leads Farmer Delegates to Science City

NUEVA ECIJA – Pampanga Governor  Lilia G. Pineda led the delegation of farmer-leaders the Science City Of Munoz for the three-day Training Course on Farm Machinery Operations and Safety Cum Palay Check System implemented  by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

The governor said the farmer leaders in Pampanga should be equipped with technical know on agricultural modernization and the utilization of new farm equipment.

Pineda, along with 30 farmers from the different parts of Pampanga, joined the riding tour facilitated by the personnel of PhilRice in their facilities and rice fields.

The tour showcased the different breeds of rice which could be planted in diverse land types and conditions similar to the province.

For instance, the Submarino breed which could survive even after being submerged in water for up to two weeks would be fit for the flood-prone areas in Pampanga particularly in the 4th district towns.

In addition, the governor inspected various Farm Mechanization equipment developed by the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech). The acquisition of suitable equipment is part of the continuous efforts of the Provincial Government in providing assistance to its farmer constituents.

Farmers also participated in an open-forum at the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC). Their queries regarding their existing requests to PCC, particularly artificial insemination, were addressed. Currently, 400 artificial insemination procedures have been conducted throughout the province.

The farmers will stay in Munoz until March 31 as part of the three-day training hosted by PhilRice. (Angelique DC Tuazon, PIO Pampanga)
