FLORIDABLANCA, Pamp. – Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda is eyeing the conversion of Barangay Nabuclod here as a tourist destination, after seeing during s recent visit its potential for eco-tourism.
Pineda said the conversion would benefit members of the indigenous cultural communities, as this would generate income and extra employment for them.
According to Pineda, the mountainous area of Nabuclod has a potential to become an eco-tourism spot, considering its beautiful scenery and its good climate condition.
“Hindi naman natin kukunin ang lupa ng ating mga kapatid na Aeta, sa halip ay rerentahan ng mga investors ito upang i-develop para maging tourist spot. Ang ganda pa, magkakaroon sila ng karagdagang kita bukod pa sa magkakaroon ng trabaho ang marami sa kanila,” Pineda said.
Mayor Eddie Guerrero disclosed that Ramon Ang of the San Miguel Corporation had already expressed his intention to invest here, looking for some 1,000 hectares for eco-tourism development.
Guerrro said Ang’s representatives will conduct an ocular inspection to determine a possible location site of the company’s investment.
The mayor also noted that 2nd District Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal (CGMA) Arroyo has started developing Nabuclod a few years back. He said she had already worked out for the construction of needed facilities like electrification of the area and a water system for the use of the Aetas and their visitors.
Guerrero likewise noted that CGMA is working hard to attract more investors.
