CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—In a bid to annihilate illegal drugs in the province, Governor Lilia Nanay Baby Pineda steered an array of intensified “Briefing on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control” for Barangay Purok Chairmen of different municipalities of the four districts, this province over the week.
This came as the lady governor mustered purok leaders to employ them as catalyst and stoolpigeons of the programs and information of the provincial government on its illegal drug campaigns.
“Isa kayo sa tumatayo para sa kapakanan ng inyong barangay, tinawag ko kayo dahil alam ko malaki ang inyong maitutulong sa ating drug campaign. Kayo’y boluntaryong nagtatrabaho dahil mahal nyo ang inyong mga kabarangay, alam nyo ang bilang ng inyong nasasakupan, alam nyo kung sino ang nakatira sa inyong purok”, the governor said.
In return for their voluntary work, the governor announced the privileges they could get from Philhealth and Point of Care especially the senior citizens, pregnant women and cataract patients who cannot afford operation and hospitalization.
Other programs include scholarship grants for their children, special education for the out of school youth through the creation of a Youth Commission of the provincial government, livelihood and training for the PWD’s.
Governor Pineda wants all Kapampangans who suffer from myoma, cancer, tumors, lumps and the like to get free medical attention and instructed the purok leaders to collect them all for treatment.
3rd district Board member Rosve Henson said in his remarks that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan under the leadership of Vice-governor Dennis Pineda has been inspired by the good performance of the governor. “The leadership of Governor Lilia Pineda is a participatory governance that caters to everyone from farmers, senior citizens, bhw’s, daycare teachers, scavengers, among others. This and more inspires every Kapampangan to also serve the province”, Henson said.
Meanwhile, Police Supt. Liza Guzman said that according to the Dangerous Drugs Board, 80% of the crime rates today are drug related. The lady police deputy superintendent also revealed that the main components of drugs are toluene, muriatic acid and acetone that affect and destroy mainly the brain of the user.
Guzman added that illegal drugs not only affect the brain and body of the user but also family relations, and the whole community as well.
Board members Cris Garbo, Dinan Labung and Cherry Manalo expressed appreciation to the purok leaders for their contribution and selfless dedication in their barangay. That these leaders are obliged to support and help the PNP and the governor to dissuade the youth from the lures of illegal drugs and save their future.
Also seen in the event were Arayat Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino, Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr., Board members Ricardo Yabut, Nestor Tolentino, Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Rodolfo Recomono Jr. PDRRMC Head Angie Blanco, PSWDO Elizabeth Baybayan, Provincial Librarian Bessie Macabali among others.
