Gov to Mayors: Do not Endorse Candidate for Barangay Election

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia Pineda appealed to the members of Pampanga Mayors’ League (PML) not to engage in partisan politics nor endorse candidates for barangay election.

The appeal was made by Pineda to maintain good relationship and unity after the poll.

In a meeting with PML together with the Commission on Election and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the governor said peaceful election should start with the local chief executives by not meddling with candidates’ propaganda especially this campaign period and to remain impartial.

“Do not endorse any candidate. As the highest official in your town, you have to be a role model in promoting unbiased and peaceful election,” told Pineda

Pineda asked Mayors to encourage all aspirants to stay away from mudslinging and personal attack to prevent grudges and hard feelings among families and supporters.

“Tell them not to hit each other below the belt instead present their platforms and plans. This is what the people need to hear from them,” she said.

Atty.Lydia Pangilinan, Commission on Election (Comelec) Pampanga supervisor reminded them to be cautious of candidates who will possibly use their names and pictures as campaign strategy.

“There is a possibility they will put your pictures on their campaign materials. If you can avoid it, do not take pictures with them especially in a form of endorsement,” Pangilinan said.

The governor also appealed to the municipal and city election officers who are also present during the meeting to keep the candidates and the voting public to be well informed about the rules and regulations of the election to avoid misunderstanding and conflicts.
