Governor Lilia G. Pineda called on barangay tanods in Lubao town to support the province’s on-going campaign on the maintenance of peaceful and orderly communities even as she instructed the police force to double their efforts in ensuring a peaceful and orderly Pampanga.
The governor made this call before 700 barangay tanods throughout Lubao’s 44 barangays, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), provincial and town officials and other concerned government agencies during the kick-off ceremony for the celebration of National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) at the municipality’s gymnasium.
Theme for this year’s annual celebration is “Pinoy Ako, Crime Prevention Mission Ko” with the slogan “Knock-out Crime!”
In her message, Pineda reiterated that a peaceful and orderly Pampanga would attract more investors and tourists and, thus, spur its economic progress and development.
She further enjoined the barangay officials to mobilize their respective constituents to ensure clean and healthy surroundings by practicing waste segregation and proper waste management.
The governor distributed free uniforms and PhilHealth cards to the 700 barangay tanods who, she said, are always at risk in the performance of their duties as they are in the frontline of barangay public service.
The chief provincial executive also ordered the distribution of garbage carts which are intended for collecting wastes in Lubao. Each household will pay P2.00 as fee for the garbage collection.
Provincial Police Director PSSupt. Edgardo G. Tinio also stressed the need to intensify the police integrated system as he sought the assistance of barangay tanods in the prevention of crime in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Tinio said that the active involvement, commitment and participation of barangay officials matter a lot in the realization of law enforcement-related programs and activities.
He further encouraged the local officials and ordinary community residents alike to be pro active and be involved in PNP’s text volunteer brigade dubbed “I Text Mo, Aksyonan Ko” by reporting any known crime-related incident.
All text reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality, Tinio assured the participants to the NCPW celebration ceremonies.
Meanwhile, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Director Roybel Sanchez discussed the ill effect of drugs and presented the drug situation update in the province.
Sanchez cautioned parents of minors who are being used as drug couriers that they are answerable to the crime committed by their children as they will be charged accordingly.
Aside from the free uniforms and PhilHealth cards, the barangay tanods were also provided with free medical check up conducted by the physicians from the various district hospitals who along with Board Members Salvador Dimson, Jr. and Teresito Lingad joined the governor in the said event.
