CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Six flood-hit coastal villages from the town of Masantol received financial assistance from the provincial government through the initiative of Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda.
An amount of P20,000 each was given to the officials of the coastal villages of Alauli, Balibago, Bagang, Sapang Kawayan, Nigui and Sagrada after they were met by the governor to thresh-out their plans on how to minimize if not prevent the floodwaters in their respective areas.
It can be recalled that for almost a month now, some 1, 055 residents from the said coastal barangays are still living in the makeshift shelters at evacuation site located on top of the earth dike and cannot return home because of flooding.
Initially, Gov. Pineda conducted relief operations in the said villages but she admitted that it is not enough, so the province decided to give them additional financial support.
“This P20, 000 is part of the augmentation of the province to their 5 percent calamity fund that they can use to attend the needs of their constituents”, the governor stated.
Meanwhile, Nigui Brgy. Captain Bernardo Yumang declared that assistance granted in their village will be used for the rental of boats for rescue and relief operation.
“We will allot the funds for the rental and gasoline of boats during calamity”, Yumang said.
Aside from the financial support, Gov. Pineda assured the village officials that the provincial government will help them in sand bagging of the breached mini-dikes in their area while waiting for the action of the Department of Public Works and High ways.
