CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Public Works and Highways-3 (DPWH-3) led the unveiling of Jose Abad Santos’ monument at North Luzon Expressway, Jose Abad Santos Avenue Interchange to coincide with the celebration of the 132nd Birth Anniversary of the former chief justice.
The event was graced by Former President now Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo together with Third District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales, Davao City First District Representative Karlo Alexei Nograles, Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, DPWH-3 Director Engr. Antonio Molano, City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin “Edsa” Santiago, and Maria Susana Abad Santos Madrigal-Eduque, granddaughter of the former chief justice.
Eduque thanked the department and the local government for the beautiful monument honoring his “Tatang”. She also said that the day’s celebration is more than enough knowing that her “Tatang” lived a simple life and would not want any recognition just for doing his part in the government.
Former President Arroyo also thanked the DPWH for putting up the monument. She also said that she is hoping that as more people pass through the Jose Abad Santos Avenue, they will remember the heroism of the national hero.
“We should also thank Jose Abad Santos for giving honor to the province of Pampanga for his martyrdom,” she added.
The Jose Abad Santos Avenue, formerly known as Olongapo-Gapan Road, was named after Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos in line with the Republic Act No. 9477 signed by former president Arroyo on May 22, 2007.
