CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Luzon is eyeing to promote home-stay program for the local and international tourists in tourism areas with none or with limited accommodation facilities.
DOT Central Luzon Director Ronnie Tiotuico said one of the problems of tourism in the province is inadequate hotels and restaurants to accommodate bulk number of tourists and expectators of festivals.
This prompted the DOT to introduce the home-stay program in areas with tourism destinations and activities.
“Most of the tourists go to Olongapo, Angeles City and Clark for accommodation and restaurants even if the event is outside the area. This is because most of the towns in the province do not have the facility to accommodate them,” Tiotuico said.
Home-stay program will train households the basic principles of hospitality management if they are willing to rent extra room in their house for tourists.
He said some of the tourists prefer the warmth of a home compared to a hotel.
“Filipinos are known for being hospitable and good cook. Home-stay will surely give tourists a new choice of accommodation.
The DOT plans to start the home-stay program in Lubao and nearby towns since the Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held here every year.
