DOLE Grants P1M for Nego Kart Project

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Labor and Employment, in partnership with the provincial government, had granted P1-million for the the “Nego Kart” livelihood program to some 110 ambulant vendors from the 20 municipalities and one city of the province at the Benigno Hall, Capitol Compound yesterday.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda who led the distribution will provide financial assistance worth P550,000 for the 110 ambulant vendor-recipients to further ensure the success of the livelihood project.

According to Raymundo Agravante, regional director of DOLE-III, the distribution of nego karts is a regular project of the agency and is part of its effort to provide alternative source of livelihood for the workers from the informal sector.

Agravante also added that they will also conduct evaluations after 6 months and after a year to gauge the success of the project and the impact to the beneficiaries.

It was also learned that close monitoring of the dispatching of nego kart units will also be performed by the agency in cooperation with the local employment offices.

Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Luningning Vergara said that 15 nego karts were initially distributed while the remaining 95 units will be released before the end of this month.

Aurelia Bondoc, a resident of San Basilio, Sta. Rita and one of first recipients of nego kart, has been selling fruits for more than 20 years and was very grateful for the governments support to ambulant vendors like herself.

The governor was also joined by Board Member Olga Frances “Fritzie” David-Dizon, and Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Officer Mamerto Gatus. (Angelique Tuazon, PIO Pampanga)
