Diño to village execs: Re-organize BADAC or be sued

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño told the barangay officials the need to re-organize the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) and failure to do so will incur legal charges against them.

This was gleaned during the Barangay Officials Summit 2018 held at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here.

DILG will be releasing a new memorandum on the reactivation of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC), this time with stronger sanctions for leaders who refuse to organize one. With the memorandum, DILG may file cases against refusing barangays with the Ombudsman or with the Office of the President.

Diño added that the barangay officials are the most capable in fighting against criminality and that they are also as powerful as any other elected official in the country.

“One of the most powerful officials is the barangay captains. Kayo ang chief of police, mayor, governor at presidente ng inyong mga barangay,” he said.

Since the start of the drug campaign, Diño said that peace and order in our country heavily improved with the cooperation of police, barangay officials and even civilians.

BADAC is considered the first line of defense against the proliferation of prohibited drugs in the community. It’s members primarily consists of barangay officials and barangay sectoral representatives having first-hand information about the members of the community.

Also attended the summit are Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, Vice-Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, DILG-3 Director Julie Daquioag, DILG-Pampanga Director Myrvi Fabia, provincial board members, city and municipal mayors.
