Food Security Complex to rise in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA – Pampanga is set to witness the development of a food security complex following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Provincial Government, Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 3, and Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) on Monday, May 29.

Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, DA Region 3 Director Crispulo Bautista, and PhilMech Director Dionisio Alvindia led the MOA signing ceremony, which was witnessed by Provincial Agriculture Committee Chairperson and Board Member Ananias Canlas, Jr.

The Pampanga Food Security Complex is the result of a tripartite agreement between the Pampanga government, DA Region 3, and PhilMech.

Governor Delta emphasized that the food security complex aligns with one of his 12-point agendas to ensure a sustainable food sector in the province. He highlighted the significance of establishing sufficient and reliable infrastructure to support key agricultural processes and empower marginalized farmers to optimize their harvests.

The provincial government has allocated a budget of P238 million for the construction of two warehouses within the facility. This budget also covers site development, drainage systems, a 3-phase electrical system, office supplies, and various machines and equipment required for the complex.

Meanwhile, DA Region 3 will contribute P50 million towards the construction of one warehouse, as well as the funding for two units of recirculating multipurpose dryers with conveyors. PhilMech, on the other hand, will provide P72 million for the procurement of a state-of-the-art rice mill and two units of the recirculating dryer.

The first food security complex in the province will be established in Brgy Sta Catalina in Lubao. The concept for the complex was carefully crafted by a technical working group composed of experts

from the DA-RFO3, Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), PhilMech, OPA, PPDO, and LGU of Lubao.

This initiative marks a significant stride towards enhancing the agricultural sector in Pampanga and ensuring food security for its residents.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga- Some 1,568 tuberculosis patients (TB) from the 1st and 2nd districts received cash and food assistance from the provincial government in ceremonies held on Wednesday, May 10, at the Bren Z Guiao Convention Center.

Vice Governor Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda led the distribution of assistance on behalf of Governor Dennis’ Delta’ Pineda to personally look over the condition of the patients undergoing medication.

She thanked the Department of Health (DOH) for extending efforts to provide the medication needs of more than 3,000 recorded patients in the province’s Rural Health Units (RHUs).

According to her, more than political support, patients must also elevate efforts to cure themselves to lessen the risks of TB within communities.

Kasi kung mig-skip kayu pilang aldo, ekayu mipaldan. Lala kayu pota miconvert ya pa yang cancer baga,” said Vice Governor Nanay.

To boost advocacy efforts to fight TB, patients also underwent educational talks on preventing and curing the disease.

The DOH reported 311,000 tuberculosis cases in the country in 2021 based on the National TB Registry.

Experts advise patients to seek early treatment if symptoms already persist.

Each beneficiary received cash assistance worth P3,500, medicines, and food packs from the provincial government.

Kaya napakalaking tulong itong binigay nila sa amin para kahit papaano ay may maiuwi at makabawi man lang ako sa pamilya ko,” said Wilson Enjape, a TB patient.

1,641 TB patients from the 3rd and 4th districts received the same assistance the other day.

The World Health Organization (DOH) defines TB as an illness brought on by a bacterium that damages the lungs. It is the 13th leading cause of death and the second leading infectious killer after Covid-19 worldwide.
