Capitol targets 1000 blood donors

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The provincial government through the Provincial Health Office spearheaded a bloodletting activity at the Provincial Disaster Management and Action Center targeting to collect 1000 units of fresh blood.

The activity was participated by Capitol Employees, the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army, select village officials of the province, and civilians who regularly donate their blood.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda supervised the event together with Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Imelda Ignacio, and Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Pampanga Chapter Administrator Augusto B. Ocampo.

“Yesterday, we celebrated our Independence Day made possible by our national heroes. Now, we are joined by the modern heroes of our time,” Pineda said.

Governor Pineda personally attended to some donors and expressed gratitude for their contribution.

“You donate more than just ordinary blood. Through this you help save the life of your fellow men, and for this we are truly grateful,” the governor added.

Donors go through a stringent screening and physical exam to ensure the integrity of blood collected from them. Donors’ age, weight, physical appearance, and hemoglobin count are checked before the actual blood collection. Blood collection lasts five to ten minutes per donor.

Under Governor Pineda’s administration, said event is the third bloodletting activity conducted by the provincial government.

Last year, the PHO collected 199 units from 2 bloodletting activities wherein donations were distributed to Pampanga Medical Specialists Hospital (PMSH), Armando Garcia Hospital and PRC-Pampanga.
