Capitol honors slain cop

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government of Pampanga headed by Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda recognized the heroism of a slain cop assigned in Marawi City.

The governor along with Board Members Ananias Canlas Jr, Pol Balingit, Fritzie David-Dizon presented the recognition to the kin of late Police Inspector Edwin Placido during the flag raising rites held at the Capitol Building, Monday.

Resolution No. 4868 states that Inspector Placido, who served as deputy chief of police of Marawi City, stood tall and fearless in defending and protecting his police station against the terror attack of ISIS-inspired elements known as Maute terrorist group.

According to Cynthia Placido, the wife of the late police officer, he died on May 23 but his body was only recovered last September and was identified by authorities this November.

Placido, though born in Zambales, has been residing in Barangay San Nicolas this city for a while together with his Kapampangan wife and three children. Before being deployed to Marawi City, the police officer was first detailed at Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon.

During the recognition, Gov. Pineda extended her condolences to the family of the late officer.

“We are proud of him because he died doing his duty as a policeman and for fighting for the freedom of Marawi. We know that he didn’t die in vain,” the governor said.

Cynthia Placido, for her part, thanked the provincial government for recognizing her husband’s ultimate sacrifice.

Aside from the resolution, the family also received P50,000 from the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and another P50,000 from the governor.
