Capitol gives back to Kapampangan senior citizens

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda led the celebration of Provincial Elderly Month 2012 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in recognition of the senior citizens’ role as contributors to the province’s growth and progress.
“We are here to celebrate the life of the Kapampangan elderlies and to repay for their efforts during their time. Pampanga would not be the progressive province that it is now without them,” Pineda declared.
Some 1154 senior citizens from all over the province gathered here and enjoyed the modest celebration prepared by the Capitol through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, led by Elizabeth Estiller-Baybayan.
According to Baybayan, some 17 elderlies – aged a hundred year-old and above – were even awarded with cash gifts in celebration of their longevity.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Marcelo Jaochico also led the administration of anti-pneumonia and anti-flu vaccines for the senior citizens with assistance from the Department of Health.
Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, regional director of the Center for Health and Development III and Elsie Bondoc, social insurance officer of PhilHealth also joined the celebration.
Pineda also reminded the senior citizens that age should not be considered a hindrance in enjoying life.
“I am also a senior citizen like you. I am already 61, soon turning 62. Please welcome me to the club,” Pineda even teased.
Further, the governor formally invited the elderlies to the celebration of Pampanga Day in December.
“Please join us in celebrating the foundation of our province because we would not be here without your help,” Pineda ended.
