Capitol Gears Up for Pampanga Week Celebration

The province of Pampanga will be observing its 440th Aldo ning Kapampangan on December 11, 2011 and the provincial leadership met today (14 Nov) to finalize the activities for the week-long celebration.

Governor Lilia G. Pineda called to a very early morning meeting at 4 am concerned officials and came up with the final details of the daily activities from December 6 to 11.

According to Joel Mapiles, provincial information officer, the governor scheduled the early meeting to afford her enough time to attend to other official concerns. He also said that committees have been formed to see to the necessary preparations and ensure that the activities will proceed without a hitch.

The celebration, Mapiles said, shall kick off on December 6, Tuesday, with the opening of a trade fair along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue  at 6 am followed by a joint creative flag raising ceremonies at the Capitol compound, 8 am; a thanksgiving mass to be officiated by Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto, 9 am at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center; a sectoral group presentation at 1 pm, also at the Convention Center; a business conference, 3 pm, Benigno Aquino Memorial Hall; blessing of capitol facilities, 4 pm; lighting of Christmas display and fireworks; and a night with Pampanga cooperatives.

The second day, December 7, Wednesday, is Aldo ding Katutubo and Aldo ding Talaturu, a day featuring the activities of cultural communities and teachers at the convention center, 6 am and 1 pm, respectively; pre-pageant of Mutya ning Kapampangan, 4 pm; and Aldo ding Kayanakan, featuring activities for the youth, at 6 pm, at the convention center.

The third day, December 8, Thursday, is a day for provincial employees at the convention center while the municipal governments will have the evening for their activities at the same venue.

December 9 is a day for farmers and members of the media community, with their activities scheduled at 7 am and 5 pm, respectively, at the Aquino Hall and at 6 pm the coronation night of Mutya ning Kapampangan at the convention center.

December 10 is a day for the Philippine National Police (PNP) with their activities scheduled at 7 am at the convention center. At 6 pm of the same day, the whole of Pampanga will be treated to the show “Will Time Big Time” of Willie Revillame, to which many Kapampangans are expected to turn out for, Mapiles added.

On December 11, Pampanga Day itself, there shall be a “libad”, o a fluvial parade at 7 am along the coastal areas of the province to be lead by the Governor herself. From 5 pm onwards of the same day, the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awards will be given out in the traditional program at the convention center.

Mapiles reiterated that the celebration of Pampanga day/week this year is based on the Governor’s desire to make it a more relevant and meaningful observance for Kapampangans. (Pampanga PIO)
