Capitol distributes COVID-19 safety kits to halt local transmission, lessen risk on vulnerable communities

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The provincial government of Pampanga distributed COVID-19 safety kits to the different barangays in the province.

Governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda said a total of 5, 333 pulse oximeters, 31, 988 thermometers, and 106, 000 face shields were given to 505 barangays in the province this week.

This is in line with the continuing efforts of the provincial government to avert the increasing local transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and to reach out to more vulnerable sectors such as the poor and the elderly.

“Para masiguro po ang kaligtasan ng mga kabalen sa gitna ng pandemya, namahagi po ang provincial government ng pulse oximeter, thermometers at face shields para sa mga indigent, senior citizens at kabalen na may comorbidities,” the governor said.

Except for the pulse oximeters which will be used by the barangay health workers (BHWs), he said that the thermometers and face shields will be spread out in every household based on the population record of each barangay.

The governor directed the barangay health workers to regularly monitor the oxygen level of indigent seniors and those vulnerable individuals, saying they face the most threats and challenges than others.

“Araw-araw po dapat titignan ng ating BHWs ang oxygen level at pulso ng mga senior citizens at may comorbidities sa probinsya. Kung wala naman po kayong face shields, manghingi po kayo sa inyong barangay captain para may magamit po kayo. Nag distribute po tayo ng more than 100, 000 face shields para sa inyo,” he urged.

The massive distribution of safety kits was prompted by the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in the province.

As of March 25, the province has a total of 9,266 COVID-19 cases of which 104 are new and 1,164 are active cases. At least 7,636 people have recovered from the infection and more than 466 have died from it.

Earlier, the governor ordered a household lockdown from March 20 to April 5 to reduce the spread of the virus in the province.

The governor also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and maintain obedience to health protocols to stop the surge of coronavirus disease.
