Capitol distributes aid to flood-affected communities

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Provincial Government, led by Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, delivered relief packs to the flood-affected towns of Macabebe and Masantol, where nearly all of its 47 barangays have become inundated as a result of the continuous rains.

Governor Delta together with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) officer Angelina Blanco and Mayor Leonardo “Bobong” Flores personally supervised the distribution of food packs in the coastal town of Macabebe recently affected by Habagat.

At least 12,713 of the15, 892 (80 percent), and 8,793 (80 percent) of the 10, 992 families in Macabebe and Masantol towns, respectively, benefitted from the relief goods. The said relief packs were distributed last July 31 and August 1.

“Hindi man natin mabibigyan ng paisa-isa ang mga bahay-bahay pero yung mga identified affected households ay siyang pinapa prioritize ng PDRRMC sa ating mga Kapitan para maabutan sila ng kahit kakaunting tulong man lang,” Gov Delta said during the initial distribution of food packs.

Each family received 5 kilos of rice, 4 cans of sardines, and 4 cans of corned beef.

Blanco stated that the province has prepared disaster response equipment, evacuation centers, and manpower, in anticipation of more rains and flooding this year. Regular monitoring of the situation of 21 local government units (LGUs) is being undertaken through constant coordination with local DRRMCs.

Rains caused widespread flooding in several parts of the region, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas in Pampanga. This prompted the municipalities of Macabebe and Masantol to declare a state of calamity, allowing them to allocate disaster funds and control the pricing of basic commodities in affected areas.
