Capitol bent on curbing malnutrition

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government is bent on curbing malnutrition through massive educational campaign to parents on family planning and proper nutrition to children to ensure healthy families in healthy communities.

Gov. Lilia Pineda disclosed during the opening of 39th Nutrition Month celebration this July that the provincial nutrition council will conduct seminars and film showing in every municipality discussing the importance of family planning, nutrition and health care.

The governor said parents especially those from remote areas should be given correct and relevant information on how to nurture their children particularly the food they eat and the proper way of preparing meals.

“Even the government is continuously giving vitamins, immunization to children, feeding program and medical missions if their parents will do nothing, then our programs will be in vain.

She said that they could only achieve success in this fight against malnutrition if there is a full cooperation on the part of the parents who learned from the process.

Rustica Butiu, head of the provincial nutritionist presented the activities for this year’s celebration of nutrition month. These include milk drinking, supplemental feeding program and vegetable planting.

“Health and nutrition is one of the top priorities of the provincial government. It has always been the advocacy of the governor to ensure the proper health condition and nutritional needs of the Kapampangans, “said Butiu.

For two consecutive years – 2011 and 2012, Pampanga bagged the Provincial Green Banner Award in Central Luzon besting the other six provinces in nutrition programs and other health initiatives.
