CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Member of the Parliament for Winnipeg Canada Kevin Lamoureux lauded Filipino workers for their hospitality and hard works that contributed to the strong partnership between his country and the Philippines.
Lamoureux met with Gov. Lilia “Nanay”Pineda last Friday to state his intention of encouraging Kapampangan skilled workers to work in their country and migrate together with their families. He disclosed that there are 750 thousand Filipino immigrants in Canada.
“Philippines is the number one source of temporary workers in Canada that demonstrated the strength of the two countries’ partnership. There are 250 thousand Filipino immigrants yearly,”Lamoureux said.
He said that Filipinos dominated the hospitality industry in Canada and most of health care workers are from the Philippines. Aside from these, their country is open for welders, carpenters and other skilled workers.
“Hospitality industry is driven through Filipino Community, workers coming from Pampanga and Cebu,”he said.
Further, Lamoureux said, Filipino workers are hard working and articulate in English that is why they are in-demand abroad. He said, they are conducting immigration workshop to avoid exploitation if they decide to work in Canada.
“We want to educate people to avoid exploitation and being robbed with their money. If you’re a worker you shouldn’t have to pay to go to Canada. It’s the employer who will pay for you,” reminded Lamoureux.
Meanwhile, Gov. Pineda said the provincial government is enthusiastic in forging partnership with Canada in providing employment for the Kapampangans
“We have lots of skilled worker here in the province because of trainings given by the provincial government together with TESDA. We are fortunate that Mr. Lamoureux opens doors of opportunities for our Kabalen to work in Canada,”Pineda said.
