CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Second District Board Member Anthony Torres pushed for cooperative development in the province through the creation of Municipal and City Cooperative Development Officer (CCDO/ MCDO)
Torres, Chairman of the Committee on Cooperative Development and Committee on Trade and Industy of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan convened all the city and municipal councilors who have the same committee chairmanship in the Sangguniang Panlunsod at Sangguniang bayan and also representatives of towns with existing MCDO.
The board member appealed to the local legislators to pass an ordinance creating MCDO for the empowerment of municipal cooperatives.
“The different sectors in the province have their own association and they want to level up into a cooperative. This is where the municipal cooperative development office comes in. They will give the trainings and capability building to them,” said Torres.
The Cooperative Development Administration (CDA) III agreed to orient and educate possible MCDO officers and trainers who will handle seminars-workshop to groups who are interested in forming a cooperative.
Cooperative development is one of the agenda of Gov. Lilia Pineda to promote sustainable livelihoods for the Kapampangans. Through the Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO), small entrepreneurs in the province were formed into association and now undergoing series of trainings about cooperative development if they want to be a cooperative in the future.
“As of now PCEDO is the only office of the local government unit that provides seminars and trainings to association. If we institutionalized the creation of MCDO, we will be able to help more Kapampangan groups,” Torres reiterated.
