As dengue hits 33% increase Mosquito kills 5 in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-R3) recorded 5 dengue casualties from Mabalacat City, Lubao, Macabebe, and Sta. Rita out of the 1,986 dengue cases in Pampanga from January to July 23, this year.

This number hits 33 percent increase compared to 1,488 dengue cases during the same period last year.

A sharp increase of cases was also recorded per municipality.

The town of Sta. Ana has 60 cases compared to 18 cases last year with a percentage increase of 233.3 percent. It was followed by Mexico with 186 cases compared to 59 cases last year with a percentage increase of 215.3 percent, and Sta. Rita with 44 cases which is higher by 193.3 percent compared to the 15 cases last year.

City of San Fernando has the highest number of cases at 291, followed by Angeles City with 252, Guagua with 220, Mexico with 186 and Mabalacat City with 184 cases.

There is still no recorded outbreak in the province but clustering was seen in some villages from Angeles City, Arayat, Guagua, Lubao, Magalang, Mexico, Minalin, City of San Fernando and Sta. Rita.

Gov. Lilia ‘Nanay’ Pineda said precautionary measures are being observed in the province.

She also assured the public that she will closely monitor the dengue cases in the province and that district and provincial hospitals are ready to deliver the necessary needs of the dengue patients.

The governor also advised those who experience symptoms of dengue to seek medical attention, and not to self-medicate.
