8K Cabalens Benefit From Capitol’s Assistance Program for Farmers

STA. ANA, Pampanga – Some 8,000 farmers in the province benefited from the farmer’s assistance program of the provincial government, initiated by Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda.

Crispin Guinto, provincial agriculturist said individual farmer who owns one hectare of farmland or less received P650 financial assistance from the Capitol.

The provincial agriculturist disclosed that financial assistance were given instead of seeds because many of the small farmers have planted rice ahead of time.

“In this period of time, farmers  are in need of financial assistance to buy fertilizer and pesticides instead of seeds”, he said.

The governor personally facilitated the distribution of financial aid to the farmer-beneficiaries whom she talked to for possible assistance that the provincial government may extend to them.

“We want to know the condition of our marginalized farmers for possible additional programs and services for them”, Gov. Pineda stated.

Farmer-beneficiaries of the financial aid  came from the municipalities of Mabalacat (297), Magalang (6510), Floridablanca (700), Guagua (500), Lubao (1468), Porac (608), Sta. Rita (300), Arayat (785), Bacolor (150), Mexico (800), Sta. Ana (250), Apalit (150), San Luis (935), San Simon (160), Candaba (597) and City of San Fernando (134).

Jess Cunanan of San Pedro village, this town, a farmer beneficiary has expressed gratitude to the governor for the support given to them.

“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Nanay Gob dahil taon-taon meron siyang tulong na ibinibigay sa aming mga magsasaka”, he said.

It was learned that last year, the provincial government had given the farmers 12,000 bags of certified seeds in support to the food and staple sufficiency program of the national government. (Joel P. Mapiles, PIO Pampanga)
