CITY OF SAN FERNANDO- Some 630 officers Pampanga Federation of the Associations of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in cooperation with the provincial government celebrated the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week yesterday at the Bren Z. Guaio Convention Center in this city.
The event, dubbed “Karapatan ng may kapansanan isakatuparan…now na!,” was realized through the combined efforts of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) and Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) office.
According to PSWD head Elizabeth Baybayan, the program of the governor aims to continuously provide proper and useful services to the PWDs and hopefully bring back optimism in their lives.
In a brief speech, Baybayan recapped that the provincial government was able to provide wheelchairs, crutches, artificial leg, hearing aid and other assistive devices to all the PWDs in the province.
“From there, Governor Pineda also prioritized the education for the PWDs. She asked me to locate all PWDs in the province who have children and those PWDs who lack support to sustain their education. When we gave her the list, she turned them all to scholars. To give you all the chance to succeed,” Baybayan added.
Eric Pasamonte, a PWD from the town of Sto. Tomas gave a wonderful intermission by singing an original composition he personally composed.
Aside from the 10 kilos of rice and food packs, each PWD was also handed cash incentive.
Edwin Nuguid, PWD federation president lauded Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda for her unceasing love and support.
Also present in the event were Board Members Cherry Manalo and Benjamin Jocson of the 1st district, Anthony Joseph “Tonton” Torres of the 2nd district and Rolando Balingit of the 4th district.
