City of San Fernanado— A total of P17,768,000 educational financial assistance fund (EFAF) were distributed to 4,900 Capitol scholars yesterday at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.
Funded by the provincial government, the scholarship grants were based on the classification of scholars.
Some 748 high school valedictorians, salutatorians and 1st honorable mentions received P10,000 each or a total of P7,480,000; 584 2nd and 3rd honorable mentions got P5,000 each or a total of P2,920,000 and at least 808 4th-8thhonors and others were given 3,000 each or a total amount of P5,268,000.
At least 700 scholars identified by the members of the Sangguiang Bayan led by Vice Governor Dennis Delta Pineda were given P2, 100,000 financial grants.
Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda urged the scholars to focus on their studies, strive hard to complete their college education and become successful in life to help their respective families and communities as well.
She stressed that the provincial government is fully supporting their college education as they believed that it is the way to set them free from poverty.
The governor also disclosed that the Capitol has spent P36 M during the 1st semester of this school year for the scholarship program.
The distribution of checks was led by Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, assisted by board members Nelson Calara, Ananias Canlas, Cherry Manalo, Joseph Anthony Torres and ex-officio board member Frances Olga David Dizon.
Assistant Provincial Treasurer Susan Luna and Angie Gomez, also helped in the distribution.
