4 Pampanga villages named for Best DRRM practices

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA – Four barangays in this province were recognized for their accomplishments as Best Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Practices.

Governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda personally handed the award together with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) to barangays of Sto. Cristo, Guagua; Capalangan, Apalit; Sta. Lucia, Sta. Ana and Nigui, Masantol.

The awarding was coincided with the gift-giving activity of the provincial government benefiting the 5,050 barangay officials at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center, here.

According to Governor Delta, he is very humbled by the work that the barangay officials have been contributing to the provincial government.

The governor said it was the first time in the province for barangays to be given recognition for their exerted efforts in disaster preparedness.

“I just want to take this chance to thank you for your efforts in bringing the services closer to the people. That is why I make sure to coordinate with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to strengthen our ties in enhancing the programs related to disaster preparedness” he said.

In relation to this, he added that the awarding of barangays for DRRM practices and other services would be done annually during the month of December.

The submission of the Best DRRM Practices for the barangays started last October 22, this year with the help of the Municipal and City DRRM Offices.

Notable disaster preparedness projects from different barangays were evaluated and as a result, the top four barangays made it through the final list.

Sta Lucia, Sta. Ana bagged the 3rd place for its effort in Capacitating BDRRMC Volunteers with fifteen members. They joined the Bucket Relay Competition at the 2nd Pampanga Provincial Fire Olympics in relation to their Basic Life Support Training.

Tied with Sta. Lucia was Nigui, Masantol. The barangay officials here were recognized for their Floating Evacuation Center which capacitates 8 to 10 families; water source which comes from the Rain Water Harvester Filter; Solar Power as their power source and furnished with a comfort room and garden.

Capalangan, Apalit was named as second place for its fast response through converting Municipal Vehicle into Ambulance and the Barangay Patrol converted into a Mini Fire Truck.

A barangay-wide CCTV and Public Address System was also installed to monitor and disseminate information and announcements.

Sto Cristo, Guagua won the first place for its Barangay Evacuation Center where it could occupy 50-70 families—fully furnished with comfort rooms and kitchens; equipped with response tools, mini fire trucks, and three water pumps; and facilitated by trained Barangay Rescuers.

The gift-giving activity was attended by the four districts of the province who were given cash incentives and food packs.
