CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Two of the projects included under the Grassroots Participatory Process (GPP) formerly Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) of the national government, proposed and funded in 2014 had already been completed in the five barangays of Mexico, this province.

These projects consist of the improvement with concrete pavement of farm-to-market roads at Laug to Gubat to Sta. Maria which amounted to P1.75 million while Cuayan to Buenavista totaled P1.5 million.

Out of these projects, farmers are the topmost beneficiaries of the improved accessibility and enhanced transport convenience of their farm products.

“ Maganda po at tapos na ang mga proyektong ito at ang buong bayan ng Mexico ay malaki po ang pasalamat sa ating national government, sa ating gobernador pati na sa DILG,” Mayor Manalastas said via phone interview.

The GPP program, according to DILG, is the enhancement of the budget and planning process to involve grassroots organizations and local government units in the identification of priority poverty reduction projects that will be funded by national government agencies.

“Such activity only proves that the GPP program is true”, DILG, Central Luzon Director Florida Dijan said.

Furthermore, the amount given for every project covered eighty percent and the remaining served as the counterpart fund from the local government unit.

Sources said, that an amount of P159 million GPP projects was already allocated in 2014 and was divided to the eleven local government units in Pampanga alone.
