CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia Pineda led the distribution of Philhealth cards to some 1500 flood victims of this city as part of the rehabilitation program of the provincial government after the onslaught of typhoon Maring.
The distribution is one of the long term solutions of the Pineda administration to address health problems in the province especially during calamities.
Aside from relief goods, the governor came up with the idea of giving philhealth cards to flooded victims when she personally saw the condition of residents in the evacuation centers.
“The evacuation centers are crowded. Some sleep on the cold floors. Mosquitoes and flies are everywhere. Most likely, the people are suffering respiratory diseases and other ailments,” Pineda explained.
She urged them to immediately go to the provincial and ten district hospitals for general check-ups and undergo confinement if necessary.
“Philhealth card is your passes to good health. Use them to make sure that you are at pink of your health. You can avail free medication under the no balance billing policy to all capitol-operated hospitals and discount in private hospitals,” she told them.
Third District Board Member Ferdinand Labung said this health insurance will lessen the burden of indigent beneficiaries in going to local officials begging for a little amount or discount for their hospital bill.
“With the philhealth cards, there is no need for you to run after the local officials to seek for assistance,” he informed.

Barangay Captain Alvin Mendoza of Alasas commended the initiative of the provincial government to help their constituents.
“In behalf of my 152 constituents who received philhealth cards, we extend our gratitude to Gov. Pineda. All the beneficiaries are indigents who really need this health insurance,” he said.
During the distribution Gov. Pineda brought with her a medical team for immediate check-up, prescription and advice for the beneficiaries who need medical attention.
