CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – In an effort to eradicate maternal deaths in the province, Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda once again led a Buntis Congress held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center last Friday benefitting 1420 expectant mothers.
The event, sponsored by the provincial government every year, aims to educate pregnant women – especially first time mothers – of the importance of prenatal care and regular checkup in the months leading to the delivery of their baby.
Dr. Fida Donna Guevarrra, obstetrician-gynecologist and member of Governor Pineda’s special medical team, reminded the expectant moms of their role in the development of their unborn child. Guevarra is also one of the 13 specialists which performed free prenatal examinations.
Aside from this, the Capitol also provided free dental services, with the assistance of 14 dentists from rural health units and hospitals throughout the province led by Dr. Tricia Sunglao.
The excited mothers were also able to listen to their baby’s heartbeat through the use of Doppler machines made available for the event.
Jonnabelle dela Cruz-Sarmiento, one of the beneficiaries and resident of Floridablanca, expressed her gratitude for the endless support of the lady governor for her and her fellow expectant moms.
Governor Pineda also led the distribution of gifts for the ladies, which contained maternity clothes and undergarments, as well as cash.
