CITY OF SAN FERNANDO —- The provincial government joined the annual Global Celebration of Kidney Day with a theme, “Kidney Disease and Obesity” through the provision of awareness seminar attended by dialysis patients.
The celebration was made possible through the joint efforts and cooperation of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), St. Theresa Dialysis Center and other Pharmaceutical companies.
It was learned that millions of pesos are being spent by the provincial government every year in shouldering the dialysis expenses.
However, Dr. Joy Mallari De Lara, a nephrologist affiliated at Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital (JBLRMH), Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital (DPMMH) and Macabali Hospital disclosed that the number of patients with kidney problems is growing every year despite of the huge amount spent by the province to help them.
Hence, Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda sought the assistance of doctors to conduct community awareness on how to prevent the prevalence of kidney disease and obesity problem by promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“Last year we were able to visit elementary schools to keep the pupils aware on the importance of having a healthy lifestyle to prevent obesity and kidney disease,” the nephrologist said.
In response to Governor’s request, the doctors will also hold an annual awareness seminar in the different government offices to ensure a healthy lifestyle among government employees especially those who are sedentary in their workload.
The participants who attended the event were Cabalens from the different towns and cities of the province, referred by the Nurse sa Nayon.
They were given medical assistance for anemia, blood sugar screening and nutritionist Dietitian counselling.
