LUBAO – Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda and Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab commended the town’s police chief for the immediate arrest of the suspect in the gruesome killing of mother and son in the coastal barangay of San Jose Gumi here the other day.
The vice governor and the mayor here recognized the efforts of Police Chief Inspector Michael Masangkay and his men for their relentless efforts that resulted to the arrest of Ronnel “Shao” Canilao, 21, resident of the same barangay and suspect in the slaying of Jenny Pineda-Garcia, 41 years, separated, teacher and her son Dwayne Joss Garcia, 10 years old.
The vice governor on Thursday afternoon presented to the media the slay suspect and the evidences gathered by the local police together with the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) including the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, which was thrown by the suspect in a nearby creek where the crime happened.
“At least we can say that the burden in the family of the victims’ hearts will be lessened,” Delta added.
Mayor Mylyn acknowledged Masangkay’s efforts for solving the Gumi slay case.
“We should thank Mike (Masangkay) for his relentless efforts in pursuing the suspect. As you can see, only within a day, the suspect is apprehended,” the mayor said.
On Wednesday, after the dead bodies of the victims had been found inside their house by the authorities, Vice Governor Delta rushed here as soon as he heard the news and said that they will not stop until the case is solved.
The pursuance of the suspect was immediately implemented and a P150,000 bounty was announced for Canilao’s capture.
The suspect was apprehended with the help of some informants. Canilao was said to have stayed in a motel here after the incident, then went back to the crime scene. Afterwhich, he fled up to Cavite, then to Baclaran before going back to his family in Floridablanca where he was apprehended and questioned.
“We can say that, with the arrest of Shao, the case is already closed,” Masangkay said.
Seized from his possession are jewelries, cellphone, iPad and P10,000 cash and other belongings which he looted from the house of the victims.
According to Masangkay, the suspect will be charged with robbery and rape with double murder.
