CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – In an effort to intensify her anti-illegal drugs campaign throughout the province, Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda enjoins Pampanga’s zone (purok) leaders to forward pertinent information on any unscrupulous, particularly drug-related, activity to her office or the provincial police office as it happens in their respective areas.
The governor said this as she convened the 3,828 purok leaders at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center yesterday for the Year-end Assessment on the Peace and Order Program in the Barangay, also attended by officials from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Provincial Police Office.
PDEA Regional Director Gladys Rosales urged the purok leaders to be more proactive in the campaign against illegal drugs and immediately report any untoward incident to authorities.
“You are our eyes and ears in the grassroots level,” Rosales stated.
Police Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono Jr. also stressed the important role of purok leaders in maintaining a peaceful and orderly province.
The provincial police director said, purok leaders could provide intelligence or information crucial for the apprehension of perpetuators.
DILG Provincial Director Myrvie Fabia discussed the purok leaders’ duties. Some of their many responsibilities include the provision of intelligence, profiling of assigned households, and information dissemination and submission of real-time reports in times of disaster or calamities, among others.
Governor Pineda also introduced the hospital chiefs in charge of the provincial and district hospitals and instructed the purok leaders to seek assistance from the officials when bringing in their constituents in need of medical attention.
The attendees cheered as the governor also announced that they are entitled to a sponsored PhilHealth membership under the Capitol’s Point of Care program, along with their spouses and dependent children.
