Council to conduct another bloodletting activity

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Provincial Blood Services and Advocacy Council (PBSAC) will conduct another bloodletting activity this May.

This came as the PBSAC held its 2nd quarter meeting at the Executive House, Provincial Capitol, over the weekend.

According to Provincial health officer Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, the bloodletting activity is scheduled quarterly to accomplish the council’s mission of providing safe and sufficient supply of blood in the province.

“Bago bumaba sa 20% ‘yung supply ng blood natin, we should conduct a bloodletting para hindi tayo maubusan ng dugo,” said Jaochico.

Jaochico also disclosed that the council is eyeing the establishment of a blood services network between the district hospitals, provincial hospital and Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital.

“A blood services network is an organization composed of the designated blood centers, hospital blood banks, blood collection unit, blood stations, end user hospitals, and other health facilities established to provide for the blood needs of a specific geographical area.”

According to Cecil Buan, Development Managing Officer of the Department of Health Regional Office 3 (DOH-RO3), district hospitals are now in the process of completing the necessary documents required in acquiring a license to operate from DOH.

Meanwhile, Dr. Carlota Manzano, vice president of PBSAC and a pathologist from JBLMRH, urged members of the council to work hard for the attainment of the council’s mission.

“Hindi lahat ng probinsya sa Pilipinas ay binibigyang halaga ang local blood council. We are fortunate that we have a governor like Governor Lilia Pineda to augment the needs of this local council,” Manzano said.

“We (local blood council) will start small and we’ll infect others. We will go up and help other council,” Manzano added.
