Gov targets cataract-free province

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – In a bid to achieve a cataract-free status in the province, Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda sought the assistance of all barangay health workers in locating indigent Kapampangans suffering from said ailment during the latter’s general assembly held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center yesterday.

 

“Here in our province, no Kapampangan should suffer from and be blinded by cataract,” the governor stressed.

 

Governor Pineda also disclosed her plans of obtaining the services of more eye specialists to help conduct free surgery for cataract removal.

 

The governor also advised the health workers of their other responsibilities particularly in maternal and geriatric health care.

 

“Remind your pregnant patients to make time for their regular prenatal checkups, and all senior citizens are now automatically covered by PhilHealth,” Pineda said.

 

The governor also expressed her gratitude for the unwavering dedication of the BHWs, whom she also considers as the modern day heroes of the province.

 

Some 2250 BHWs from various parts of the province attended said event and were given an orientation and screening guidelines on breast and cervical cancer. The BHWs also received uniforms and gifts from the governor.

 

Governor Pineda was also joined by Board Members Cris Grabo, Cherry Manalo, Rosve Henson, Ferdinand Labung, Nestor Tolentino, and Ric Yabut; district and provincial hospital chiefs and representatives from the Association of Municipal Health Officers.
