Pinoy Prefers Overseas vs. Local Employment

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Based on the survey of Jobstreet.com 70 percent of the jobseekers who attended their career fairs all over the country preferred overseas employment compared to local job opportunities.

Jobstreet.com, an online recruitment company presently covering the employment markets in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand conducted the survey during their jobsfair in Metro Manila and other 5 provinces in the country.

Yolanda Buyco, marketing director of Jobstreet.com said of the more than 20,000 applicants who joined their events 70 percent or more than 14,000 chose to work abroad and almost 90 percent submitted application for overseas job opportunities.

“The applicants were given questionnaires and as expected most of them answered that they are looking for overseas employment,” said Buyco.

She also said on their online recruitment with 4.7 million Filipino members-jobseekers, majority send applications to manpower agencies employing workers abroad.

In order to help Pinoys to find ideal jobs outside the country, Buyco said they allowed only legitimate, credible and POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration)-accredited and licensed agencies.

“Most Filipinos grab every opportunity to gain greener pasture even if it means working outside the country. To help them find jobs and to keep them away from illegal recruiters, we posted job openings from agencies that are legitimate and with licensed from POEA,” said Buyco.
