SAN LUIS, Pampanga – Mayor Venancio “Asyong” Macapagal lauded yesterday the quick response of Governor Lilia Pineda on the provision of basic needs of a two-year old public high school here.
Macapagal said the San Luis High School, a former private school with a name Gonzales Sioco High School is now under the supervision of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Domingo Reyes, school principal said the department is still on the process of allocating funds for the miscellaneous and other operating expenses (MOOE) of the school considering that it’s only two years old.
Hence, the mayor said the initiative of the governor to provide the basic needs of the school such as 300 desks and 20 tables for teachers is very timely and attuned to the needs of the school.
The principal also commended the initiative of the provincial government to help their school, teachers and the students.
“Wala pa kaming MOOE mula sa DepEd kaya malaking tulong sa amin na sinusuportahan kami ng kapitolyo sa mga pangangailangan ng iskwelahan,” he said.
The governor instructed yesterday her department heads – Engr. Lulu Alingcastrea of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Bessie Macabali of the Provincial Library to deliver the school materials as soon as possible to the said school to be used by the students on Monday.
The governor was also accompanied by Second District Board Member Olga Frances David Dizon and the department heads during their visit in this town Thursday.
The governor also took notice of the poor condition of the students on the first week of their classes.
“Students are sitting in almost wrecked and armless wooden chairs. They are writing with their notebook on their lap. Some of the teachers have no tables where they could put their teaching materials. Blackboards are old and some are broken,” Governor said.
“Nakakaawa naman iyong mga bata. Paano sila makakapag-aral nang mabuti kung gume-gewang na ang mga upuan? Walang patungan kapag nagsusulat. Mainit pa iyong classrooms,” she said.
The governor also noticed that some students are not in uniform and wearing slippers. Upon knowing their situation, she decided to pay for their school uniforms.
