3,200 health workers join symposium on barangay health programs

As part of the 441st Aldo Ning Kapampangan, some 3,200 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in the province jam-packed the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in the City of San Fernando to join the symposium on Barangay Health Programs cum cultural dance showdown.

The joyful event was hosted by the provincial government led by Governor Lilia G. Pineda in cooperation with the Department of Health (DOH) – Center for Health and Development (CHD) led by Dr. Leonita Gorgolon and all members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan including Apalit Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco, Jr.

In her message, Governor Pineda has encouraged the BHWs to continue their vocation of being an advocate of family health care in their respective barangay and serve the people with utmost care despite the fact they do not receive salaries in exchange of their services.

She said the provincial government effort on pursuing the health programs for the poor will not succeed without the able assistance of the BHWs.

In the same event, BHWs from 19 towns and 2 cities competed in a dance showdown showcasing the culture and tradition of their respective municipalities and cities.

Lubao’s BHWs were named champion in the group cultural dance presentation. They were followed by the BHWs from Porac (2ndplace), Sasmuan and Mabalacat City (3rd place), Minalin and Apalit (4th place) and those who received consolation prizes were the BHWs from Arayat, Candaba, San Simon, Floridablanca, Mexico, Sta. Rita, Guagua and Masantol.
