Capitol Plants 1,000 Narra Trees in Nabuclod

FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga – One thousand narra seedlings had been planted at the mountainside of Nabuclod by the provincial government headed by Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Wednesday.

The tree-planting activity is part of the provincial government’s environment protection and flood mitigation projects aiming to curb the adverse effects of climate change and global warming.

The narra seedlings were provided for by the DENR’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) headed by Engr. Rommel Santiago who also took part in the activity.

According to Engr. Arthur Punsalan, provincial environment and natural resources officer (PGENRO), the 1000 seedlings will approximately cover less than a hectare of land in an area near the View Deck 2 of Nabuclod Upland Eco-Adventure.

“This is our third tree-planting activity for this year and we still have more activities in line with the ongoing environment program of the Capitol, Punsalan disclosed.

Other provincial department heads also participated in the event namely: Engr. Lulu Alingcastre of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council; Elizabeth Estiller-Baybayan of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office; Luningning Vergara of the Public Employment Service Office; Mamerto Gatus of the Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office; Royce Pring of the General Services Office; Planning Officer Andy Henson; and Engineers Rene Gutierrez and Noli Pangan of the Provincial Engineer’s Office.

General Gregorio Catapang, 703rd brigade commander planted the first narra seedling joined by 35 soldiers from the army and 30 officers from the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU).

Some 80 police officers headed by Police SSupt. Edgardo Tinio, provincial police director also graced the event including the Provincial Public Safety Company led by Supt. Bernard Perez. (Angelique DC. Tuazon, PIO Pampanga)
