APALIT, Pampanga – Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda said the provincial government is set to participate in the annual fluvial festival in honor of the town’s patron Saint St. Peter known as “Apung Iru” as part of the 168th fiesta celebration of this town.
This was announced by Pineda during the inauguration of a new float (Pagoda) which can accommodate up to 200 persons.
“This pagoda is assembled for “Apung Iru” to be used for the fluvial festival that the town is known for,” Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. said.
Pineda was joined by Tetangco, members of the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Peter Nucum and 4th district Board Members Ricardo “Ric” Yabut and Nestor “Bay” Tolentino during the ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremonies officiated by Fr. Rolando Lopez.
In his welcome remarks, Felix Tienzo, chairman of the Fiesta Committee, has expressed gratitude in behalf of the Town Fiesta Committee 2012 and the locals here for the generosity and support of their sponsors.
Furthermore, Fr. Lopez stated that the people of Apalit are very fortunate that their patron Saint “Apung Iru” symbolizes the unity of the people.
“Saint Peter was chosen by God to unite men and women, and to become one, to be His Church,” Lopez added.
In relation to this, Pineda urged the townsfolk to join together in prayer for the safety of Apalit and its neighboring municipalities from any untoward incidents, particularly the overflowing of Pampanga River this rainy season.
However, Pineda and Lopez reminded the people that prayers should always be reinforced with actions.
“Your patron Saint “Apung Iru” is very miraculous, but we still need to do our part in maintaining the cleanliness of our Pampanga River,” Pineda stressed.
Lopez also commended Pineda for her compassion and genuine concern for the people of Apalit and the whole province.
